The only real threat to freedom to petition is that it is easily forgotten behind all of the other clauses in this amendment. Not knowing your own rights is the biggest threat here because if you don't know about it, you can't even utilize it. So use your rights to the fullest you can so that other don't forget the power they hold in this republic.
Petitions are abundant online in this day and age and it isn't hard to find one that matches your goals. You can sign as many petitions as you want as frequently as you want and you get to make a difference with just a click of a button and a sign of your name.
If you can't find a petition you like or if you see an issue you think other people should see, you can create your own petition and have people sign it. It isn't difficult to become a leader in your community, but making a difference is something not everyone wants to do.
Even if you don't want to make any decisions by signing petitions, just getting dialogue started can be a major contributor. If people don't talk about it, people won't care enough about it to sign a petition.
When in doubt, go straight to the top. Write letters to your representatives, make calls to the schoolboard and set up meetings with your managers to discuss issues your having. If this fails, that's where a petition comes in.
